Dé toegankelijke klassieker onder de Italiaanse Spider's, de Fiat 124. Door liefhebbers alom geprezen om haar tijdloze elegantie, levendige rijgedrag en perfecte proporties. Het model was één van de bekendste ontwerpen van designhuis Pininfarina en blinkt uit in authenticiteit. Vanaf de jaren '60 waren dergelijke lichte, open sport-auto's razend populair. Veel Europese auto's waren gevoelig voor roest en doorstonden de 'tand des tijds' niet. In 1979 introduceerde Fiat de 4e generatie met een 2-liter injectie-motor, die 87pk leverde. Deze versie was populair in Amerika en dankzij het warme klimaat zijn ze daar beter bewaard gebleven. Zo ook dit exemplaar, die sinds 2019 in Nederland is en waar de laatste jaren veel onderhoud aan uit is gevoerd, inclusief veel Amerikaanse documentatie.

Eind februari 1979 werd deze auto afgeleverd in het Amerikaanse Murfreesboro, aan dhr. Jones. Tot mei 1986 \<87.059 miles\> werd de Fiat twee maal per jaar door de plaatselijke dealer onderhouden en afgetekend in het originele onderhoudsboekje. Vermoedelijk is de tellerstand daarom nu omgerekend 250.727km. Achter de voorruit zit een sticker met een kenteken uit Chicago, welke in juni 2013 verliep. De laatste, Nederlandse eigenaar heeft de auto in november 2019 gekocht en sindsdien slechts 465 mijl gereden. Wij hebben hem ingeruild op een Porsche 911 Cabrio. Om het starten gemakkelijker te maken zijn na binnenkomst de bougies en het brandstoffilter vervangen en is er een elektrische brandstofpomp gemonteerd.

Dit model was zeer innovatief voor z'n tijd: deze generatie heeft namelijk rondom schijfremmen, een sportieve 5-bak, onafhankelijke wielophanging en Bosch L-Jetronic injectie \. De rubberen stootbumpers waren verplicht \<5mph impact rule\>. Om te concurreren met MG en Triumph waren ze standaard rijk uitgerust met lederen bekleding, verstelbare stoelen, een FM-radio, luidsprekers en houten versnellingspook. Hierbij is een rek op de achterklep geplaatst, waar een koffer op past. Er hoeft geen wegenbelasting meer betaald te worden en de verzekeringspremie is erg gunstig, gezien deze auto ouder dan 40 jaar is. De exterieurkleur van deze Spider heet 'Bianco Ghiaccio': helder, koel wit met een subtiele, lichte grijsachtige ondertoon.

Deze Fiat start, schakelt en rijdt uitstekend. Recent zijn de cabrio-kap en stoelbekleding vernieuwd. Technisch zijn, naast groot onderhoud, de schokbrekers, remleidingen (en -blokken), accu en de volledige uitlaat vervangen. De APK geldt tot 27 november 2025 en wordt vernieuwd vóór de levering. De volledige sleutelset is aanwezig. Onder het kopje 'documenten' op onze website treft u foto's van de aanwezige documentatie. De nummers op de carrosserie, motor en bak corresponderen met het boekje. De carrosserie is hard en de roestvorming minimaal. We hebben de motorruimte en bagageruimte niet schoon gemaakt, maar een auto in dit segment mag enige 'patina' hebben. Kom het gerust eens ervaren!

The model was one of the most famous designs by design house Pininfarina and excels in authenticity. From the 1960s onward, such lightweight, open-top sports cars were incredibly popular. Many European cars were prone to rust and didn't stand the test of time. In 1979, Fiat introduced the fourth generation with a 2-liter injection engine, producing 87 horsepower. This version was popular in America, and thanks to the warm climate, they have been better preserved there. This example, which has been in the Netherlands since 2019, has undergone extensive maintenance in recent years, including extensive American documentation.

At the end of February 1979, this car was delivered to Mr. Jones in Murfreesboro, USA. Until May 1986 (87,059 miles), the Fiat was serviced twice a year by the local dealer and signed off in the original service book. Presumably, the odometer reading is now the equivalent of 250,727 km. Behind the windshield is a sticker with a Chicago license plate, which expired in June 2013. The last Dutch owner purchased the car in November 2019 and has driven only 465 miles since then. We traded it in for a Porsche 911 Cabrio. To make starting easier, the spark plugs and fuel filter were replaced after delivery, and an electric fuel pump was installed.

This model was highly innovative for its time: this generation features disc brakes all around, a sporty 5-speed gearbox, independent suspension, and Bosch L-Jetronic injection (instead of carburetors). The rubber bumpers were mandatory (5 mph impact rule). To compete with MG and Triumph, they came standard with rich leather upholstery, adjustable seats, an FM radio, speakers, and a wooden gear lever. A rack was also installed on the tailgate, suitable for a suitcase. Road tax is waived, and the insurance premium is very reasonable, considering this car is over 40 years old. The exterior color of this Spider is called "Bianco Ghiaccio": a bright, cool white with a subtle, light grayish undertone.

This Fiat starts, shifts, and drives excellently. The convertible top and seat upholstery were recently replaced. In addition to a major service, the shock absorbers, brake lines (and pads), battery, and entire exhaust have been replaced. The MOT (periodic vehicle safety inspection) is valid until November 27, 2025, and will be renewed before delivery. The complete set of keys is included. You can find photos of the available documentation under the "documents" heading on our website. The numbers on the body, engine, and transmission correspond with the manual. The body is solid, and rust formation is minimal. We haven't cleaned the engine compartment or trunk, but a car in this segment deserves some patina.
